Dental Implants

Dental implants offer a permanent solution for your missing teeth. A dental implant acts like the root of a natural tooth. Implants can be used to replace individual or multiple teeth, when they are used to support crowns/bridges or a denture.

What are the benefits?

  • People will not be able to see that your teeth are supported by implants
  • Implants can be used in place of tooth supported bridges, for example when adjacent teeth may not be strong enough to support a bridge or if patients have spaced teeth.
  • Using implants to replace teeth means that if healthy teeth are next to the space, there is no need to use the healthy teeth for bridge support.
  • For denture wearers who struggle to eat with their dentures, or who lack confidence because of the instability of their dentures, implants will substantially increase the stability and retention of the dentures, to improve function and self confidence. In most cases dentures can be totally replaced by a non removeable alternative.

Are implants suitable for me?

The best way to assess implant suitability is by having a consultation with a dentist. Digital x-rays can be taken in the practice . If it appears that you are a suitable candidate for implant treatment we would advise that a cone beam CT scan of the jaw of interest is taken to show us a 3 dimensional picture of the area of interest, and we would be glad to arrange this.

Implant treatments require  healthy gum tissue and enough jawbone to support an implant and replacement tooth. We will be happy to assess this for you.

Prospective implant patients should also be prepared to maintain good mouth hygiene and visit the dentist regularly for dental check-ups.

Implants involve minor surgery, but most patients suffer only minor inconvenience..
